Trichotillomania

This condition is an impulse control disorder caused by anxiety or stress. Often called “hair-pulling disorder,” people with trichotillomania have the irresistible urge to pull out their own hair, eyelashes or eyebrows. The area of hair loss is usually asymmetric and follows an irregular pattern.

Re: Trichotillomania

Just to save time, I plucked my hair so it resembles male-pattern baldness.

Re: Trichotillomania

damn hormones.

There are several lines of evidence to suggest that hormonal factors (such as adrenocorticotropic hormone, estrogen, and progesterone) may be involved in the manifestation of trichotillomania, in addition to this being implied by its female preponderance and typically pubertal onset.

Re: Trichotillomania

It doesn't explain why it also affects men. Is it insuating that any male that has this has high estrogen levels?

No, but a lot of kids that reach puberty develop stress due to body changes, weight gain, hair grown in unwanted places etc. So males too.
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is a hormone your pituitary gland releases that plays a large role in how your body responds to stress. The release of ACTH triggers your adrenal glands to produce cortisol, the “stress hormone,” and androgens (a group of sex hormones).

Re: Trichotillomania

I have this. It started when my hair went white and now I can't control it. It's a form of OCD.

Men and women both have hormones. Just different amounts.
