Re: Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

So, I'm lost. This was an allergic reaction?
basically. its actually not also known as scalded skin syndrome. that disease is caused by the extoxins released by the bacteria staph aureus.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (and its less severe counterpart, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome) are drug-induced immunologic reactions. They are caused by an exposure to a new drug, usually sulfa drugs and penicillins but in reality any drug could cause it. The results of the reaction lead to pretty much the same complications as a burn victim would have and they are managed along the same lines, with removal of the offending agent obviously being the first step.

Re: Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

I wish I saw this a couple of weeks ago, because I was popping aspirin like they were m&ms due to a migraine

Re: Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

The same thing happened to my Mom. It was a reaction to a medication. She looked like she was burnt from head to toe. She fully recovered. Happened 2 years before she passed away.

Re: Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

One helluva reaction there, looks far more gory than the machete-mutilated Mexicans in Death Pics. Glad she eventually recovered.

Re: Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

Nice to see she didn't suffer extreme scaring from the ordeal..
