Aww I never even thought of things like that happening to hibernating animals. So glad they fixed the tortoise and he made a full recovery.

The rats thought the tortoise was dead. Rats do not predate on other animals. Only one specie of rat is even known to hunt. They are omnivorous, opportunistic scavengers. The real people to blame are the ones who left the tortoise to hibernate exposed to the elements with no safety and everyone else for being so disgusting that rats even have an avenue for propagating so excessively.
