Re: Tip of Thumb Removed From Incorrect Firearm Usage
if this was from incorrect firearm usage, it certainly wasn't from that revolver. Could be from the slide of a semi-auto though.

Re: Tip of Thumb Removed From Incorrect Firearm Usage
The revolver cylinder moves violently back and forth at the time when the bullet moves from it to the barrel. It's a very small movement but so fast that the amount of energy can easily blow your finger tip. The first picture shows the mistake, having the other hand as support with the fingers in contact with the cylinder. Usually, the tip of the thumb gets just in front of the cylinder. As a rule of thumb (pun intended) all the hands, fingers included, must be below the top of the trigger guard, pistols or revolvers. I've seen nasty injuries done by the slide of a pistol. Some old pistols don't have a hand guard in the back. |

Re: Tip of Thumb Removed From Incorrect Firearm Usage
the gases escaping from a firearm, can only cause that injury in a revolver(high power mostly), not talking about the gases on the muzzle, the slide of a semi-auto woudnt to that, you can get a little "bite" but thats it, you can even grab a pistol slide shot it and nothing bad will happen

Re: Tip of Thumb Removed From Incorrect Firearm Usage
Yes it could remove the fingertip or (thumbtip)..The revolver looks to be the S&W .500 and the gas pressure from cylinder to bbl face escapes from the sides of the frame just in front of the cylinder..He most likely was flash burned so bad that the tip had been removed..Nasty burns from gunpowder.. Here is a pic of one like what I have..Believe me they kick!My .454 is a pussycat compared and the flash from both the side of the frame and muzzle is awesome at night!Even more so then what the photos above show. Its coolish ! |

Re: Tip of Thumb Removed From Incorrect Firearm Usage
this guy if in my car club forum. it was a .460 S&W. other than that, you got it right on. the gasses escaping from the sides of the gun had enough force to blow the tip of his finger off. |
