American Arrested for Stabbing Norwegian Tourist in Thailand

Mueang Chiang Mai Police Station announced on October 12 that their investigation team, in cooperation with Chiang Mai Tourist Police, had successfully arrested an American tourist who had allegedly attacked and injured other tourists. The suspect was arrested at a hotel in Chiang Mai, with a knife as evidence.

The suspect, identified as B.B., a 28-year-old from Florida, USA, was arrested on the evening of October 11 and subsequently taken to Mueang Chiang Mai Police Station for questioning. He is now charged with causing bodily harm to others and causing severe injury to others.

Latest correction is that Burggraf was arrested at Jet Yod Plaza, not his guesthouse.
UPDATE:
At 8.30pm on the same day, a man from The Netherlands was also reportedly stabbed by Burggraf in the neck and back and is currently in critical condition. Police made the arrest around 10pm.

In the early hours of Wednesday, a tourist was seen causing a disturbance along Moon Muang Soi 2. According to a local Thai business owner, a Norwegian friend of hers intervened to try to calm the man down as he had been shouting and behaving erratically.

However, during the confrontation he was stabbed in the stomach. He was rushed to hospital and is currently in ICU. There was a citywide hunt for this man following the incident with multiple sightings of him caught on CCTV.

Police have now confirmed that they arrested 28 year old US National from Florida, Brian Andrew Burggraf. Local media report that he has allegedly also stabbed other victims during his rampage,

Police said Brian Andrew Burggraf, 27, was arrested at 1am while walking on a road in Tambon Jed Yod.

Police say they found a 15-centimetre-long knife in his trouser pocket along with a packet of hashish marijuana.

Police claim Burggraf confessed to attacking the Dutch father and son, identified as Erik Jan, 52, and Colin Mike, 20.
