Would that kind of pain cause him to pass out (hopefully)? Or would he just have to endure the 4-hour rescue? Maybe they gave him some pain meds while he was hanging there. I hope so. Gruesome.

People die from hanging in harnesses like that, painters, maintenance men etc, even when properly fitted. Too long hanging there and your legs blood supply gets cut off, clots form, then you die when they float free and hit your brain. It is well documented in the industry.
