At this stage, the disease would have caused marked psychological disturbances (insanity) and by this point (since the bones have be basically "eaten" by the disease) this individual was likely dead in a week after the image if not already dead.

I think she's alive, the moisture in her eyes is suggestive of this. She won't be alive much longer. What gets me is there's a cure for this if caught early enough.
