Suspected Chironex fleckeri Envenomation: Box Jellyfish Stings
Chironex fleckeri envenomation is poisoning caused by the sting of a large box jellyfish, a type of cubozoan found in tropical Australian waters. Its stings can cause severe pain, welts, scarring, low blood pressure and cardiac arrest. Fatal effects can develop within minutes. A 2020 review recorded 77 known fatal stings during the preceding century. Treatment includes opioids for pain. Vinegar inhibits the firing of previously undischarged stinging cells; it does not neutralize venom already injected. Antivenom is available, but its effectiveness remains contested. |

I got a very small one once, only about 2" long. Hurt like HELL, and took about a year for the welt to go away! |
