Surgical Debridement...only in Kenya!

Warning: This is really nasty looking!
Dr. Daniel Agullo discusses the surgery of a 26 year old patient who had a small cut on his right leg which turned into major necrosis. As a result he lost 80% of his leg. The surgery was performed at St. Joseph's Mission Hospital in Migori.

Dr. Agullo hopes that by sharing some of the issues that the people of Kenya face, they will be able to reach some goals for their healthcare, most notably a new nursing school on the premises, by where when nurses are finished with the school they will then transition to work for the hospital. There is a sever shortage of nurses there.
Another worker, an anesthetist, feels that the hospital needs a new oxygen unit with tanks so that she can help save lives there.

The hospital has so many needs. One of the main needs is for skilled workers to assist them. Volunteering in Kenya was one of the most amazing things I have ever volunteered for and if I can help them to achieve their goals, I will do so. My answer, from my spot in America, this video. I am planning to send a monetary donation to assist with the building of whatever they need with the funds raised from this video.
Please pass this along, and in fact, lets make it go viral and get them a new wing at the hospital! Help me to make this one of the most important and life changing viral videos youtube has ever seen!
Btw, sorry if this doesn't embed properly (or has been posted before)...I'm exhausted and heading to bed but wanted to share.

Looks so unsanitary yet was no doubt cleaner than I think. They know what they're doing.

Re: Surgical Debridement...only in Kenya!

Oswald - someone under the same name as the doctor working on that gentleman posted a few additional comments, only one of which is really relevant to our interests here:

walter was in the hospital until September 2011. He was undergoing surgical dressing daily until then. Skin grafting was the done successfully. one month after the grafting he was discharged from the ward to be followed up in the surgical outpatient clinic, I saw him today. He is okay.

Re: Surgical Debridement...only in Kenya!

Imagine all that trauma stemming from a small untreated cut on the leg.
