Surgery to Remove Echinococcal Cysts from the Brain
Human echinococcosis is a parasitic disease caused by tapeworms of the genus Echinococcus. People become infected by ingesting the parasite's eggs. Dogs are the most common carriers of these parasites, but infection can occur not only through contact with them. For example, the penetration of Echinococcus can occur by eating unwashed fruits or vegetables, raw or poorly cooked meat. Despite the fact that no one is immune from this type of helminth infestation, people who breed animals, cattle, collect berries, fruits and vegetables are most exposed to it. Leatherworkers, shepherds, hunters, farm and slaughterhouse workers are also at risk. |
