Poor guy, but fuck...I could kick the owner's asses for letting him get to that point. It's neglectful abuse, plain and simple. I have a cat that would LOVE to eat and eat and eat until he got Meatball's size...but guess what? He's not. Why? Because I"m a fucking responsible human and don't LET HIM.

Sure, he still needs to be prodded into playing and he'd rather sleep on my face than do anything, but SHEESH.... :/
