Suicidal Guy on Overpass Falls when 2 Bystanders Want to Rescue Him
Brazil, Last week a 24 year old man wanted to commit suicide by jumping off an overpass when two motorists saw what he was planning and approached him from each side trying to prevent him from jumping but it all went wrong and he fell on the road but survived. He underwent brain and elbow surgery.

Which is exactly why we tell people to let the professionals handle these situations because had these 2 backed off a negotiator would have arrived on scene and possibly talked the man down without his falling or hurting himself at all... The same holds true for MVA's or any kind of accident... Unless you have been trained to be an EMT/Paramedic and know what you're doing we in EMS advise bystanders not to give assistance to the victim unless they are in a life and death situation such as the car being on fire or their car is in a place where the victim could easily get hit again... Keep a close eye on them and make sure all are breathing and have a pulse... Otherwise? Wait for Fire and EMS to arrive... Leave the victim just as they are because moving them the wrong way could damage their spinal cord thus possibly render the victim paralyzed for life... He landed on his side so he probably did some serious damage to his elbow. And it looked like the guy in the white shirt pushed him off the overpass but that could be due to the quality of the vid. |

Looks like the suicidal man lets go of the rail just before the bystander tries to grab him by the waist
