Subtotal Amputation of Index Finger
Worksite injury resulting in subtotal amputation of the index finger with loss of circulation. The injury occured at around 7.30 p.m. he then travelled 340 km and arrived to the hospital in the morning around 7.00 a.m. The total time from the injury to operation theater was 14 hours. On exploration both digital arteries were found completely divided along with the division of both flexor tendons and fracture of proximal phalanx. Ulnar digital nerve was avulsed and the radial digital nerve was found in continuity. Total duration of surgery was 4 hours, where 1 cm bone shortening was done, both the arteries were repaired, k-wire fixation was performed , ulnar digital nerve repaired, both flexor tendons repaired, one extensor tendon repaired and one dorsal vein was repaired. |

This happened to me when I was 6, except it was a big toe. I was running around in the yard and stepped on a big hollow pole meant to go on the swing set. It was just held on by a little flap on the top of my foot. Other than a now faint scar, no issues.
