"Stiletto Surgery", to Fit Into High Heels?

Would you ever get your pinky toe removed?
Women undergo surgery to fit into high heels.

Yes, we have an obsession with shoes, no doubt. And we love wearing high heels, no matter how painful they are. But some women are taking the art of wearing the stiletto even further, opting to get surgery on their feet just to fit in their favorite shoes.

According to the Daily Mail, more women are choosing to get their pinky toes removed because it’s that much easier to fit into their heels. Yikes.

'Unless you’ve been there, and you can’t find shoes, and you’re in pain, don’t judge,” patient Susan Deming, who recently underwent a toe-shortening procedure, told Fox News, says the Daily Mail.

Her procedure included getting a centimeter of her second toe cut off, (she says she had abnormally long toes and one foot larger than the other, causing her pain when she wore heels). Now, she can wear her shoes without problems. “I’ve never felt this good about something I’ve done. If it’s vain, it’s vain,” she said.

*Some Suggestions From Another Source*

Would you have surgery in order to fit into a pair of high-fashion, high-heel shoes? Some women are doing just that.

The trend began in New York and Los Angeles, and is rippling across the country.

From high-fashion models on the runways in Paris, to the hallways of Pittsburgh, women love shoes and want to wear the hottest style, no matter how uncomfortable they may be.

And to look good, women are squeezing their feet into shoes with high, high heels and pointy toes.

Dr. Stephen Conti, an Allegheny General Hospital foot and ankle specialist, said that wearing these kind of shoes long enough can permanently and painfully deform feet.

When the shoe doesn't fit, some women turn to surgery.

A recent survey found 9 percent of patients having cosmetic foot surgery had it in order to wear certain shoes.

The surgery involves making an incision and removing the bone from the outside toe.

This should make wearing narrow-toed shoes more comfortable.

But it doesn't always work.

Forty-eight percent of people who had cosmetic foot surgery said it did not make it easier to wear the shoe.

And 69 percent still couldn't wear high heels.

If surgery isn't for you, but you really want to wear high heels with narrow toes, Conti says you really shouldn’t wear a heel higher than 1 1/2 inches. If you just have to wear those high, high heels and narrow-toed shoes he suggests you try this:

1. Save the use of your high-heeled shoes for functions in which you will not be on your feet for extended periods of time, and use a 2-inch, not a 4-inch, heel.

2. Take your designer shoes to a podiatrist to have them custom fit to your feet. They may be able to stretch the toe box to better accommodate your feet.

3. Try wearing a larger size shoe than usual and insert heel cups into the backs for a better or more comfortable fit.

4. Use a spacer between the great and second toe.

5. Wear open-toe shoes instead of a similarly styled heel that causes discomfort in your toes.

Conti also said the higher the heel the more pressure on the ball of the foot, which can result in pain and long-lasting foot problems. Here is how high-heels affect the ball of the foot.

1-inch heel: 22 percent increase pressure 2-inch heel: 57 percent increase pressure 3-inch heel: 76 percent increase pressure

Conti said that to keep your feet healthy, wear shoes with heels no higher than 1 1/2 inches and shoes with a rounded toe box.

To tell if your shoe fits properly, trace your bare foot, then put your shoe over the outline.

If the shoe doesn't cover the outline, it's not a proper fit.

Re: "Stiletto Surgery", to Fit Into High Heels?

My mom's feet look a bit like the first foot with the huge big toe knuckle. Not so extreme, though. (Is it called a knuckle when it's on a foot ? English isn't my first language. )
She has real trouble finding shoes that fit, but she's not considering surgery because of all the risks.
I don't understand how people can willingly go through this kind of thing just for the looks.

But I must say I am lucky, I have nice looking feet with short toes, and nothing deformed.

My boyfriend and both our daughters have the second toe longer then the big toe. our youngest daughter has one foot that is half size larger then the other, so shoe shopping for her is tricky.

That's all a chick Game...

I would rather have a woman with spiffy feet verses fucked feet and spiffy shoes. That just goes to show how superficial people can be.... "Look at my Shoes, I must be a Pretty Princess, Smart, Successful, and Sexy on the inside"

I guess women are slowly evolving back into the Chinese Wrapped feet sickness

@juliemd - But, would you have the surgery?

@FrightRat- Your English is great! I am attaching a chart of the bones in the foot for you. We don't call part of it a knuckle, but, I knew what you meant. If you're happy calling it that, most English speaking people should know what you mean ;)

I have lovely feet, too, by the way. My late oldest brother was a danseur and he thought I had great insteps, for what it's worth.

*Foot Chart*

The feet are flexible structures of bones, joints, muscles, and soft tissues that let us stand upright and perform activities like walking, running, and jumping. The feet are divided into three sections:

•The forefoot contains the five toes, (phalanges), and the five longer bones, (metatarsals).

•The midfoot is a pyramid-like collection of bones that form the arches of the feet. These include the three cuneiform bones, the cuboid bone, and the navicular bone.

•The hindfoot forms the heel and ankle. The talus bone supports the leg bones, (tibia and fibula), forming the ankle. The calcaneus, (heel bone), is the largest bone in the foot.

Muscles, tendons, and ligaments run along the surfaces of the feet, allowing the complex movements needed for motion and balance. The Achilles tendon connects the heel to the calf muscle and is essential for running, jumping, and standing on the toes.

Men, take care of your feet as well! My feet are well maintained, but, I never wear high heels due to back issues.

No feet wrapping for me either!

If people don't like it, they don't have to look!
