A Chinese builder who worked on a construction site in Chongqing, was struck on the head by a falling bar. He was taken to hospital and an x-ray revealed it was embedded in his skull to a depth of 8 cm.

Firefighters had to cut the bar using industrial cutters then surgeons performed a 4 hour emergency surgery to remove the remaining metal.

Luckily no permanent brain damage occurred due to his safety helmet absorbing most of the impact.

I dunno, stranger things have happened with people who have been impaled a lot worse and survived with no lasting damage.
