Spiders, Anyone?
If you get bit by a spider and suspect it may have been a brown recluse, better get it checked right away. This guy didn't.... Day 3 Though not too bad looking after 3 days, this bite is far from fully developed. Day 4 Notice the finger is still swelling as the bite become more and more infected. Though antibiotics will subdue the infection, most bite victims will still experience a lot of pain and suffering from the wound that develops. Day 5 "The thumb which was bit is still swelling and getting more red. It is clear that this bite is infected and the general state of the soft tissue around the penetration point is degenerating." Day 6 "At this point, the infection has progressed enough to warrant some invasive treatments and procedures. This will involve making cuts and draining the wound." Day 9 "The wound has now been lanced and drained. Two days have gone by since the last photo. At this point it is hoped the infection won't get any worse. " Day 10 At this point the wound looks as bad as it will look. The infection has slowed and though this will take months to heal, the real threat has passed. Now only time will tell how well the injury heals and if there is any permanent damage to the skin, muscles, nerves and other surrounding soft tissue. A little more of this charming spider ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The big guys: Camel Spiders Two camel spiders stuck together in Iraq ![]() Camel Spider bite ![]() This story was received by Camelspiders.net. According to the soldiers relatives; the bite must have happened while he was sleeping. He wasn't even aware that he had been bitten. He woke up to a large lump on his arm. Then while out on maneuvers, the cyst-like area ruptured open. He was then sent on to the MASH Unit in Kuwait. They dug everything out (puss & ??) then packed it with gauze, put him on a strong round of antibiotics with instructions to re-pack the site several times a day. The area was too large for them to stitch shut. They claimed that it would cause an air pocket under the skin. So it had to be allowed to heal from the inside - out! It seems to have healed pretty well, leaving a small scar about the size of a penny. ![]() ![]() Not all Camel spiders are big, but.... still creepy. ![]() Um, yeah, this guy is nuts. ![]() Someone wants a kiss! Anyone want to offer? ![]() Camel spider eating a locust ![]() Most camel spiders have bad attitudes, and jump at the soldiers in Iraq, chasing them. One guy said he's a tough as nails infantryman, but that's the only time he ever ran screaming from any bug. They can run 10 miles per hour, which is extremely fast for an insect. ![]() I don't care what anyone thinks, I think he could pass for a slightly disfigured mascara model. ![]() Camel spider eggs ![]() |

Re: Spiders, Anyone?
We have a smaller version of the Camel Spider in the Southwestern United States, we call them Sun Spiders or Vinegaroons. They don't get much bigger than a quarter but they're very aggressive and have a shitty temperment. Even half squashed they try to bite anything that gets near. I have friends with first hand experience with them in the Middle East that have seen them almost the size of a man's hand.
