Spider Bite (not a Nasty One)

I was collecting rosemary in my garden the day before and I got a bite from a wolf spider lurking in the branches.

Pic of the little mofo: The depicted spider is actually a hogna carolinensis, but the graeca sub-species is almost the same. No pic of the perpetrator, I killed it and enjoyed every millisecond of the act.

Although they are not considered extremely poisonous, epidermal necrosis might occur in some cases. I left the wound untreated and I visited the doctor this morning (bad itch, redness and burning).

She said that I have an infection due to allergic reaction to the wolf spider's toxins (I'm not sure if this is medically correct, but I'm not a doctor and I don't remember the exact terms used). I got some bandages and a topical cream that is supposed to kill the infection.

Not that much puss or runny meat in this picture, but the doctor promised that it will go REALLY bad during the next 4-7 days. I promise to update when this happens and I hope I will not be posting the next picture with a half-rotting thumb.

Pic of my thumb before visiting the doctor, day 3:

I have those come in the room we live in right now, I always call them wood spiders. Those things get HUGE. every time i see one it gets smashed or my pitbull smacks it with his big feet, its hilarious to watch him do that.

Yes, unfortunately those mofos get huge. They bite only when provoked, but they have a quite painful bite. The one that bit me was a tad smaller than a zippo lighter...

Re: Spider Bite (not a Nasty One)

Thanks. Good to know. I have always thought wolf spiders were harmless. I'llbe more careful playing with them from now on. O_0
