Snapping Both Quadriceps, Fracturing Knees in 880 Pounds Squat Attempt
Russian powerlifting champion Alexander Sedykh suffered a horrific injury earlier in August, fracturing his knees and snapping both quadriceps while attempting to squat 880 pounds at the World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) European Championships in Dolgoprudny, Russia. Sedykh, who won the 2019 WRPF competition, was initially able to walk the weight back; his knees buckled in the downward movement of his lift, however, resulting in the injury. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he underwent six hours of surgery to repair his knees and quadriceps, per Yahoo Sports. "The main thing is that I must lie motionless in bed for two months," Sedykh said of the injuries (via Yahoo Sports). "It'll take time to recuperate. ... I've had my quadriceps re-sewn and my knees put back together." After his two-month confinement to a hospital bed, Sedykh said, he will need to be taught to walk again. He did not indicate whether he would continue his weightlifting career. |

I hope he has previously won some prize amounts large enough to mount a TV on the ceiling over his bed......."I must lie motionless in bed for two months"........doesn't sound like the poor bastard will be able to prop up. |

I don't know why, but other than the poor guy's screaming I wouldn't have known he was that badly hurt just from looking at the film. I wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
