Smegma Pictures
Smegma is a harmless buildup of sebaceous oils, dead skin cells, sweat and other fluids in genital folds. It can collect beneath the foreskin, in the labial folds or under the clitoral hood. It is typically thick, white or yellow, and crumbly. Smegma is not a sexually transmitted infection and is not itself bacterial or fungal, although it can help bacteria grow and produce an odor. It is most common in males with a foreskin and usually does not occur before puberty. Accumulation can cause irritation, swelling and difficulty retracting the foreskin. It usually clears within days with regular soap-and-water washing. |
