This happens in 1 out of every 35,000 pregnancies, basically one twin receives blood that's being pumped from the other twin in the wrong direction, with no oxygen in it. Because the blood is deoxygenated, the fetus usually develops with no heart, no skull, and larger amounts of connective tissue than normal. The "pumping" twin is at risk because their heart is perfusing for both itself and the acardiac fetus, which can cause heart failure in utero. The acardiac twin may also grow more rapidly than the "normal" twin, and miscarriage due to excessive amniotic fluid can also happen.

Eek! Poor babies, but, they're/he's creepy looking! Sometimes, nature knows what she is doing by not allowing them to survive.

I still think alot of horror movies were based on birth defects. Cyclops, for one.

I have to agree with Diamond, the idea(s) for some horror movie creatures had to have been based on these types of birth defects.
