A fixed shell to fire a number of small spherical pellets called shot not slug. Since it mostly hit the mid section, according to how the pellets are being spread, they shot him from 4-5 feet away, could be twice. |

He may be dead, but that kind of a wound is usually survivable. The potential for birdshot to penetrate a body decreases significantly over distance. Although he is well peppered, the wounds are not likely to be too deep. |

At 4-5 feet, a shot pattern will not be much larger than the bore of the shotgun. For all intents and purposes, it is basically a large bore rifle at that range. A shotgun dispersion pattern acts very much like a parachute opening. The shot mass holds together pretty tightly for at least 15 feet, but when aerodynamic integrity (such as it is) of the shot mass destabilizes, the pattern 'pops' open pretty quickly. |
