Re: Shot Gun Vs. Arm

Sorry I'm so slow in responding...work?!?!
This happened four years ago. I lived on the Snake River and was having trouble with a beaver chewing the trees the boats were tied to. So I decided I would shot the little rat and be done with it. A friend had returned this lovely .20 gauge with the safety broke and fully pumped. I did not know this at the time. I believe I rope it which resulted in the discharge and a huge hunk of my arm gone in a spray of blood. I did not realize how badly I was hurt, the gun was at such close contact that it burned and stopped a lot of bleeding. I had on a hooded sweat shirt and I looked into the hole didn't see a whole lot so went about doing my thing which I have no idea what that was. The hospital staff guessed I wondered around for an hour or so. It must have started to hurt because I decided to drive myself into town, which was 20 minutes to a hospital. I didn't make it more than 2 miles when I was so loopy I got out and started walking. Some people picked me up and called an ambulance. I spent a week in the hospital. Two surgeries one to clean it up, the other to do the skin graph. A year later the one nerve that was working was growing through my skin graph so they moved it around and put it under the muscle just below the scar on my fore arm. Just so you all know no beavers were harmed. LOL
But now my friends call me the Beaver Slayer. Haha!!!! I will post a pic of what it looks like now. I can best describe the feeling as being slapped with a wet towel, it stung super bad. Its a great conversation piece at parties. Once I accepted the fact it wasn't gonna grow back. And its a narly scar too.
P.S. Ignore my spelling/grammar errors etc. I'm on my a friends tablet.

It doesn't look so bad now. So I really didn't get the part about how the gun was pointed toward your arm? And it caught on a rope? I get that the safety was off and it was loaded but how did you end up at the wrong end of it? Just lucky that way...?
Just so you know, as a teenager I was fooling with my dad's .44 Ruger Blackhawk. It was loaded with Magnum hollowpoints. I took it out of it's nice lambskin case and pulled the hammer back. Then realized that now the safety interlock was down and I had no idea how to undo what I had just done. So I held the hammer and pulled the trigger and gently lowered the hammer. Now i realized the safety interlock was down and the hammer was live on the pin. So I was scared. I put it back on the shelf and sat there thinking things over how to return it to it's former safe situation. I don't remember what conclusion I came to but finally I pulled the case back down and sat there on my Dad's bed and laid it on my left knee while I unzipped the case once more. The pistol slipped out and went between my legs and hit the floor hammer first. A gout of smoke and flame erupted to the right side of my right leg. I was so pleased thinking it had missed me. Then I noticed the tear in the left side of my pants. So I thought I was doubly lucky it had only torn my pants. Then I looked closer and I noticed the steam curling up out of a hole I could see inside the tear. My brother had been sitting to the right of me and he looked over as I said I think we need to go to the hospital.
Outcome was they cut the wound from entry to exit and let all the students come have a look. I have a nice long scar to show for it.

Re: Shot Gun Vs. Arm

I had hold of the gun by the barrel. I flipped it up to aim. Mark me I knew nothing about firearms at the time, except to stay away from the fire end. So your bullet went through and through? Its amazing that you don't realize your hurt at first. I'm trying to get a photo that shows how much is missing out of my arm but its not working very well.

Re: Shot Gun Vs. Arm

You're lucky! Is that 20 gauge, birdshot, or what? I'm gonna try to 1-up you.
Very good, .20 gauge, lead bird shot. I still a bunch of shot still in my arm.
