Severe Plaque Psoriasis Pictures and Scalp Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic disease in which an overactive immune system causes skin cells to multiply too quickly. Plaque psoriasis, its most common form, produces raised red patches covered with silvery-white scale. These can occur on the scalp, trunk, elbows and knees. Psoriasis is not contagious. Genetics and environmental factors contribute to the disease. Flares can be triggered by stress, skin injury, infections, smoking, alcohol and certain medicines. Psoriasis cannot be cured, but it can be managed. Treatments include creams and ointments for mild disease, while moderate to severe disease may be treated with light therapy, pills or injections. Psoriasis is also associated with psoriatic arthritis. ![]() ![]() |
