Hi all! Long time lurker, first time poster :)

This picture hardly qualifies as severe in relation to the average DR picture/video. However, the picture is of myself and I can add some backstory to it / answer any questions you might have!

Long story kept relatively short: I was riding my bike with complete right of way and a car blew through an intersection without seeing me. He collided with me dead-on, T-boned me.

The result: I flew 10-15 feet forward, landed pretty darn hard, and was in some state between extreme pain and shock. I felt really nauseous and hurt all over, but there wasn't any isolated pain. At this point, I'm still lying on the ground, motionless.

The driver exited his car, moved my bike out of the rode, got in his car, and peaced. Ugh, I yell out of sheer anger. At this point I start feeling around my body make sure everything is in place. Once I get to my shoulder, I cringe because I can feel it's not right.

I managed to crawl to my bike bag, call the police, and wait for an ambulance to arrive. By the time they arrive, I'm pretty close to passing out; I can barely hear, sounds are extremely muffled, and my vision is fading in and out. Luckily, I never pass out, and the emergency responders are awesome.

Once I'm all checked out at the hospital, I'm informed that I've separated my shoulder. Nothing is broken and nothing is dislocated. What I experienced was a grade 3 separation, which is when all of the ligaments connecting the clavicle to the scapula are torn and the bones are no longer in line and connected.

So it still hurts like crazy, but I'm ecstatic that there is no required surgery or bone resetting! Since I opted for no surgery, my bones are now healing as seen in the picture. When I move my shoulder around, I can see and feel the clavicle moving on its own, which is was unable to do before.

All things considered, I'm super grateful for the extent of my injuries. I am still recovering from other bone-related injuries (about three months out now) but I am well aware (primarily from this forum) about how much worse things could have been.

Sounds like a long process. The car must have had some damage so did they ever catch that fucker splitting the scene?
And by bike you mean a bicycle or a motorcycle?

Unfortunately, they never caught the guy. I’m in Baltimore and this kind of thing isn’t terribly uncommon. Drivers here suck and there is an abundance of beat up cars, and unfortunately I didn’t get a great look at it for a description.

And I was on a road bicycle, which actually didn’t really suffer too much damage, just about $100 and it was good as new.

As for the recovery, my shoulder feels pretty fantastic already, so I guess I lucked out. I’ve had surgery on this same shoulder before and I’ve been through the ringer with it, but this time around at been okay!

Nice post, I’ve had torn ligaments before and agree it’s very painful indeed.
Anyway glad your ok and wish you a speedy recovery. Shame they didn’t catch the SOB.

Good thing you weren't hurt worse. Sorry that happened though.

Hah! Baltimore, I used to live in MD. Tried to stay away from that town. Wish they could have caught the asshole. Hopefully, Karma will. Glad it wasn't worse, although all those separated ligaments must have hurt like the dickens. Heal fast!

Yeah, they call that lump a "piano key". I've had one for about 4 years since I can't afford to take time off work for surgery. Thanks American labor laws and health system!
