I've self-assisted 2 of my own births, I was completely alone for both. First one was unintentional (phoned the ambulance waaaay too late lol), the second was intentional since the first birth one was brilliant, no fuss, and a very calming experience for me and my daughter. I had no pain-killers with either birth. I would recommend self-assisted births to all mums, an experience like no other. Pure magic.

I would imagine, after watching my wife go thru it twice, that having something to think about (the baby) besides the pain and the doctors would probably take your mind off the pain? Don't get me wrong, anyway you look at it, it has got to hurt like hell at some point!!
