Apparently they peel the skin to create scar tissue that in the end forms a tattoo....must hurt like a bitch.

It's sad how we live in society when a tattoo isn't good enough. That scare bullshit looks horrible, nothing like suffering for an ugly result.

Its more of rights of passage, religious reasons, and not just for the more modified person or aesthetics. I did a lot of reports for it for anthropology - its one of my favorite taboos to study on.

So i wouldn't say its horrible how society is, because most who do it have a reason besides aesthetics and look into the religious or spiritual side of it.
