Not all maggots eat dead tissue. Some species of flies have larvae that eat LIVE tissue and create these huge wounds. I don't know if that was the case here, though. The spinal cord issue may mean that the infection may have been spreading faster than the maggots were eating. So they may have meant that there was a risk of infection to the cord, which would make it maggot food. Glad the dog got help and a new home. :) |
