This follows the guy as he he seen by medics in the field then when he reaches a field hospital. His injuries were caused by stepping on some sort of mine.

His foot is removed initially under propofol with local anaesthesia, they then tie up any blood vessels and bandage it up before it is revised when he reaches a more equipped hospital. The fracture in the tibia is treated with external fixation.

Fascinating how they do the partial amputation in the field to stabilize him. Then get him behind lines and do a more proper job of it.

I was gonna make a new thread for this one, but the content is similar enough I figure it'll fit in here well enough.

A 120mm mortar landed close to this russian soldier, smashing his left leg at the thigh and his right to below the knee. The 1st vid shows him at a casualty clearing station having the left leg removed. The bone is already completely smashed so removing it only requires a few flicks of a scalpel. Interestingly I think they identify a nerve bundle and inject a local anaesthetic into it before cutting it.

The 2nd vid, like the original post, shows the process of completing the amputation, shaping the stumps and creating a flap over the end, so it can, at least in the case of the right leg, accept a prosthesis

Poor guys. It doesn’t matter which side or what beliefs once you’re injured like that. Suddenly the focus of their lives has come down to the pinpoint of surviving and dealing with, as with the last soldier, two amputated feet and one whole leg. THAT’S gotta suck.
