Really, there where 2 impacts to her fall if you look closely - the first was after the cable broke and the ribbons reached there limit before busting loose was the first, secondary impact was the mats. The vertebrae probably broke during that first impact. The good news is that I have seen many patients recover (not fully, of course) but to a level that allows full independence. The big issue with this poor girl is that gymnastics was clearly her life, and while she may regain function with lots of work, sensation may only come back to a degree if at all, a she’ll never be a gymnast again. And judging by the look in her eyes in the hospital bed, that poor girl has already lost the will to live. I feel for her... |
