Had a similar accident myself when I was 19. Router. Took Half an inch off my middle finger and a fairly major nick in the ring finger. Hurt like a bitch.

Well..at least he wasn't using a "Cove" bit... Would have looked cool I guess..
But would have sucked for him.. lol
If your friend still has use of that finger? Tell him to stick with painting..

he had surgery Tuesday 6may2014, they managed to patch it up pretty good two more surgeries scheduled to repair tendons nerves and muscles, also skin grafting. They are expecting a decent recovery, limited function and feeling but it is expected to work alright in a years time
