Rotationplasty
Rotationplasty, or shortening of the leg with rotation of 180 degrees to allow the ankle to function as a knee joint, is known to be a dependable and durable alternative to above-the-knee amputation for the treatment of malignant tumors about the knee. Compared with patients who have had an above-the-knee amputation, patients who have had a rotationplasty are more active, participate in higher-demand activities, and are less concerned about the limb. Despite the low rate of complications associated with this procedure rotationplasty is infrequently performed in adults and has not been previously described for post-traumatic limb salvage, to our knowledge. erm...do I understand this right?: they removed his upper leg and then they turned his lower leg around and put it onto his hips and then the rotationplasty is put onto his foot?!

There is another person in this section with that. I think it's a female, but, I'm not positive. I like the name Rotationplasty. Not sure why. |
