I had that done when nose was shattered during a basketball game. It was a horrible recovery as I had the gauze packed in my nostrils. I was told not to remove it but it drove me nuts. To make things worse I started vomiting the next morning from the anesthesia and I had to smell that gauze soaked with vomit until my appointment later that day to remove the gauze.

One of my friends went through similar, said it was awful.
