Reconstructive Surgery on Hand + Arm After Infection

Serious MRSA skin and subcutaneous tissue infection that needed extensive reconstructive surgery!

This patient originally presented symptoms similar to those of a flu syndrome. As the week passed, his fever continued to rise, giving him another commemorative: his hand and arm began to edemaciate. He soon realized he wasn't dealing with a flu!

He went to a hand surgeon who identified it as an infectious painting. 7 surgeries were performed, in some cases even osteotomies, to remove infected tissue.

After about 18 months of physical therapy, the patient recovered about 40 % of his function in this arm / hand.

Whoa! Wasn't expecting to see the arm sewn into the belly like that.

MRSA...FLESH EATING BACTERIA
Yeah bloody hell. I watched some documentaries about it. One in particular is the extraordinary case of Alex Lewis. Poor guy. Lost all 4 of his limbs.

I read somewhere he was on vacation and got bitten by a bug or something, or went to swimming I forgot.

Who knew a bite of a bug could cause such ordeal. The guy was a champ and his wife deserve some respect for staying with him through all those.

Not just bacteria, fungus can cause this kind of damage as well. Glad I'm living in modern age, in a modern city where sanitation is quite the priority.

bloody hell.

Re: Reconstructive Surgery on Hand + Arm After Infection

MRSA lives on all of us. Its not a flesh eating bacteria. But if it gets into a cut or sore and spreads and the immune system is compromised, its bad.

This poor guy
