Plantar Warts: Verrucas Covering a Foot
Plantar warts, also called verrucas, are small skin lumps that grow on the feet and can have tiny black dots beneath hard skin. They are caused by a virus that spreads through contaminated surfaces or close skin contact. Spread is easier when skin is wet or damaged, and a wart can take months to appear. Verrucas usually clear on their own, but this can take months or years. Treatments include creams, plasters, sprays and freezing. Large or painful verrucas may be treated by a podiatrist with stronger medicines, liquid nitrogen or surgery. |
