They were only killed if they weren’t great in the pit. All the old dogmen(people who kept/fought the dogs) said they didn’t tolerate man biters, but most looked the other way and made exceptions, if the dog was a good fighter. |

From my studying, they shouldn’t be “guardy” and protective of property, but react when their owner/family is in danger. A lot of dog yards had to have a different breed to guard their pit bulls, so they wouldn’t be stolen. Most dogs of all breeds are not bred to standard, so you will get regular, non specific traits.(territorial/aggression ect) You have to go to a strict, dedicated breeder if you want something that meets all the check marks on a breed’s list. |

Between those people of yesteryear and today's dogfight breeders we now have Pits with psychotic, overly aggressive temperments/bloodlines. Humans let their dogs down. The animals were bred to satisfy human bloodlust. |
