A pit bull attacked a woman during an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in summer 2014, grabbing her face as she stood up after being doused with water. The dog dragged her to the ground. A later photograph showed scars and stitches on her face.

The woman's family said the dog belonged to her daughter and was euthanized after the attack.

Wow, Granny acting like a lunatic after shower + kids that dog probably thought he is supposed too protect since birth + poorly bred pitbull = this. For sure this is not the first time dog has been aggressive. Warning signs are there, just stupid human not knowing the signs.

God damn I fucking HATE these dogs with a passion. Round where I live its always scally mutants who have them urgh....do the world a favour and put down these dogs and their empty-headed owners. Ugly fucking mutts, I would happily shoot one of these fuckers with my crossbow. And I dont give a FUCK about "theyre nice dogs, ooh blame the deed not the breed, hes a lovely dog, wonderful temperament, really good with kids" BULLSHIT. I dont give a FUCK how "good with the kids" these mutts are, they can turn on a fucking penny, with disastrous consequences. Yes I know other breeds can also "turn" but these fuckers, which are basically mongrel breeds, with all kinds of weird genes, have much more of a proclivity towards displaying aggressive behaviour than other breeds. They were bred for FIGHTING in a PIT for fucks sake!!!!!!!!! Rant over; (braces oneself for the avalanche of pro-pit comments).

When you attack someone, your dog may attempt to assist you. Doesn't matter if it knows the person or not.

The kids may have been seen as "attacking" the woman, since she acted like she was being assaulted.

People need to pay more attention to their dogs' behaviors and how they react in situations.

You want your dog to be protective of your kids? Do not allow them to be in situations like this, or where your kid is going to be play fighting and such.

I had a rottweiler that bit a guy in the ass for grabbing me. I was a kid and the guy was only playing.

To expect the dog to be able to always tell the difference between play and a threat, is a mistake. It's a dog and cannot read human behavior 100% of the time.

Some dogs won't care if someone breaks into your house and some will get aggressive just for someone looking at you. There are dogs with a personality that fits anywhere on the spectrum between those two temperaments.

I have no problem as long as pitbulls ONLY maul their owners.

Not others or kids.

You should have to withstand 4 maulings by a pitbull before being allowed to own one.

That would cure the problem very quickly.

Here is a dog showing a classic pit bull trait, going for the face of the victim. This is what pit bulls were bred for, and one of the reasons they are so dangerous. After reading the details of this dog it is nothing short of miraculous that he didn't go after one of the children.
