Oral and maxillofacial surgery is surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. It is a recognized international surgical specialty. (from wiki) I guess this is from the pioneering days of this surgery. |

I've just had a nasty tooth infection, which became an abscess, it was so big, the doctors had to cut my face/chin and push out nearly 7 ounce of pus, so I can feel this topic  unfortunately I cannot make a picture of the actual leaking of pus |

I was just looking at some old photos like these online about facial issues back in the early 1900's. The photos I saw were mainly noses (showing how they'd rotted off)...yet there were a few mouth photos like these, too. They said this sight was fairly common during the early 1900's due to either Syphillis & or injuries from WW1. Back then they didn't have penicillin, which first came into play in 1943. Due to this, their only recourse was triage surgery to try & save what they could. Very interesting, and yet scary! We're so lucky to now have  the proper medicines & advancements of surgery at hand for issues such as this.
