Re: Photographer Committs Suicide After Horrific Photo
I've never had suicidal tendencies, my gf has and I can only imagine how easy it would be to kill yourself if you're mind is not strong enough. He should have left his profession and helped from afar if he couldn't bear to see the 3rd world. But...shoulda, woulda, coulda.

Re: Photographer Committs Suicide After Horrific Photo
....Did you not pay attention? Journalists at that time were told not to interfere with what they were documenting. Suicide is not the cowards way out. Some people are just not able to handle the stresses of life. Some are. Be thankful you can.

Re: Photographer Committs Suicide After Horrific Photo
This picture always makes me upset. It's so sad that people have to go through this. For me, it really puts in perspective how petty MY "big" problems are when there are children in the world wondering if they will eat that day, or even week. johnleeknoefler - Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on suicide but to basically say he himself made the kid starve is absurd. You didn't say that, but it comes out that way. Him and a friend were traveling around Sudan by plane with food distributors and they were coming up to a village where they drop off food for the families. They had 30 minutes, and while the other people passed out food. Kevin took the opportunity to be able to take shots of the village and the effects on human life with all of the famine. Kevin captured thousands of heart-wrenching photographs prior to this, but this was the first time he ever experienced first hand, the extreme effects of famine. I'm sure it was depressing enough seeing adults suffering from it.. let alone small children. He didn't move the child because he was taking photographs with the vulture in the shot. The girl's mother set down her child to go get food. She wasn't "abandoned" by everyone. I'm sure if she was alone that vulture would of easily killed her, but that wasn't the case thankfully. I cannot even image having those type of memories in my head. He saw all the ugliness in the world and the mere fact you can't do anything drastic then and there to fix it, is heart breaking. He also had extenuating circumstances in his personal life, as well. This probably comes off very bitchy but it really wasn't my intention. I just wanted to point out the facts that you obviously weren't aware of. I'll apologize in advance if you take offense, because it wasn't intended. |
