Phalloplasty Wound Complications: Wound Breakdown and Partial Tissue Death
Phalloplasty is surgery to construct a penis. Wound-healing complications can include wound reopening and partial tissue death, also called necrosis. Wound dehiscence is the reopening of a surgical wound. In a series of 60 phalloplasty patients who also underwent scrotum construction, partial tissue death at the flap tip occurred in 5%, and wound reopening at the junction of the perineum and scrotum occurred in 18%. Three patients developed a urethral fistula. |
