Radiology has a key role in the diagnosis, and management of penetrating trauma. There is a wide spectrum of penetrating trauma and ocular findings are often out of keeping with the apparent clinical and radiological pictures.

The radiologist should enquire as to when and how the injury occurred and should specifically enquire as to the type of potential foreign body. Many clinicians will not realise that wood or other debris may not show on a CT scan, and will not automatically include this information.
