Re: Pain in the Neck

Don't take this as legitimate dental advice - merely passing on a tip from a friend who had a similar issue.

She had her mouth cleaned out profesionally, but the dentist advised to her pick up some plastic syringes from a pharmacy and to also pick up some heavy duty mouthwash with a decent alcohol content. The dentist recommended that after meals, my friend fill a syringe with the mouthwash, stick it into the food flap, and flush it out with the wash. Repeat several times. My friend said it stings/hurts like hell.

Also, this was a kind of 'maintenance' action after her mouth had been properly cleaned out by a dentist, so it probably won't fix or resolve whatever is happening in your mouth. The dentist also suggested that it was a short term maintainer until she could get the offending tooth removed, so that the gum issue could then heal and resolve itself.

As others have said, what you've got going on is a gum disease/infection/potential jaw infection/tooth abscess/jaw abscess complication waiting to happen. If you can book in to a college or university dental school they would definitely be more affordable. But you really need to get it attended to as soon as you can, otherwise the health complications will potentially be much, much expensive to treat and resolve!
Good idea with the college. I've been talking to dentist, last time I had a tooth pulled it was 75 dollars, apparently it goes from 150-400 dollars now.
A set of bent pliers and some whiskey is a hell of a lot cheaper. And makes for much better pictures

Re: Pain in the Neck

I recall how reluctant you were with the hand issue to seek help.. and that was a bit serious.
Wisdom teeth are not run o' the mill teeth. and can not just be "pulled" out.. they need to be cut out. sometimes drilled into pieces and cut out and removed in pieces (Like mine were )...
As I stated in your "Hand-thread" you been around this site long enough to know how the infections etc. work.
Going from bad to rot...

Simple tooth infections can get bad..real bad..like spread from your jaw to your ear/throat to brain bad.

As food food flap? Yeh.. I don't like the sound of it..lol
(I had one as well.. it would annoy me when I was drunk back in the day..take shit to it like tooth picks and other bad idea items and try to skewer it off etc. )

continue getting it cared for..and if possible? get the wisdom's out..

My upper right wisdom tooth was pulled out in one piece... That cutting/drilling stuff is done only in harder cases, first you need an X-Ray to show what would be the best way to get that sucker out of there.

Re: Pain in the Neck

Quick update, the antibiotics have with most of the swelling, the throat and ear infection symptoms and I can eat a bit more solid food stuffs.
The lump is still present, as well as a 2 day migraine, and some serious gut rot (thank you antibiotics.)

Re: Pain in the Neck

I buy Hydrogen Peroxide 3% and dilute it (on the advice of my dental hygienist) and it works great.

I used it at 3% strength for many years, but this cuts the cost in half and it actually may be a little more effective. (Although I couldn't say why that would be.)

Re: Pain in the Neck

I had this problem and it was caused by impacted wisdom teeth. It was horrible dealing with that pain every day. I got all 4 removed in one sitting and I couldn't be happier.
