Ask & you shall receive:  Originally uploaded to TikTok by the man's granddaughter......This man was falsely listed as a 163 year old Buddhist Monk practicing "Sokushinbutsu". Popular amongst Buddhist monks in Japan, the practice of Sokushinbutsu sees people entering mummification whilst still alive. (Also on a side note: A 2021 study in the Nature Communications journal reveals that humans can live for approximately 120 to 150 years....but this is the “absolute limit”.) Reason being, at this point, the body loses its ability to recover from illness and injury, meaning it would not be physically possible for the man to be 163. Meanwhile back at the ranch: The original information appears to be fake info per Snopes..... & the man isn’t actually practicing Sokushinbutsu, though he is indeed a Buddist monk from Thailand. The man's granddaughter Auyary was giving daily updates about her grandfather's condition on her TikTok account. It seems that he was falsely listed as being 163 years old....& practicing Sokushinbutsu. This information alone had amassed a huge 530,000 followers & garnering 66 million views in the first week, alone. TikTok users were fascinated by his incredible age. Snopes declared you shouldn't believe everything you read: The truth is that the man is actually 109-year-old Thai man named Luang Pho Yai. The video shows him interacting with his young great granddaughter. It was his granddaughter that had filmed the video's & uploaded them to TikTok....with the false info about the incorrect age & with the info about him being Buddhist Monk preparing for mummification while still alive.
