seems contridicting. Gastric bypass is for reducing the amount somone consumes. Making them "feel" full after a smaller amount. But the article (parents) claims shes not eating excessive anyway....so surgery would be a wasted effort.

There is actually a rare disease where something goes haywire in the brain, and the body can't tell it's full, so people will eat and eat and eat and eat and never feel fully satisfied. For the life of me I can't remember what it's called, but they did a special on Discovery focusing on one young boy who had it, very obese, but could not stop eating. They actually had to padlock the fridge and pantry, and he'd try to break through the locks because he was always hungry.
