This is seen often in the ICU. Being on the hip, it's probably from a bedsore that became infected with staph, necrotizing faccitis or fourniers gangrene can also occur easily.
Like any other full thickness wound. Wound care is paramount, often combined with a wound vac (or manuca honey/maggot therapy depending on where you are in the world) to assist with granulation. Once the granulation tissue begins to fill in the hole, it mostly heals uneventfully.

Here's the wound vac. And a similar full thickness wound as it fills in with granulation tissue.
They also use skin grafts.
Healing these definitely takes time! :)
