Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

I just don't get it It hasn't healed... even scar tissue

Thanks for the post though
It heals completely, then moves to a different area of the tongue. Sometimes looks like patches where the taste buds seem to melt away then regrow. Only the lesions/holes hurt. I try to limit soda as it really exacerbates the problem. (O, & he hates pickles anyway)

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

That's the given diagnosis. It changes in appearance. Sometimes it just appears as patches. He drinks a soda, the holes/lesions get worse. It only bothers him if he tries to eat something spicy. Have seen plenty of drs, Boone has any helpful advice or rx.

Sounds like you need to adjust his diet so he doesnt get a flair up- have you also tried changing his toothpaste?

Many diet changes, but the list of what seems to trigger it is long: fruit, juice, tomatoes, tomato sauce, soda, it goes on & on. Dr says if it doesn't burn his tongue, let him eat it. He uses the kiddie toothpaste so it doesn't burn. (Spongebob)

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

The scallops on the side of his tongue are a benign condition known as "scrotal tongue". Benign migratory glossitis, aka geographic tongue, is an autoimmune disorder that is difficult to control but mostly harmless. Just saying

Re: My Son Has Geographic Tongue

Oh my god. I have this EXACT same issue with my tongue, since a child. Never knew how or why, my mother was told it was oversized tongue/ early overcrowding of teeth possibly at a young age. If anyone knows what this is exactly, I would really like to know!!
