I've had pet rats since 1981 and I love them. In 1990 I foolishly tried to break up a squabble and Elvis bit me. I went to work for weeks with the thing (painful) and when I did go to the ER they said one more day and I would have lost the finger.

Still love my rats even though the Bunt is insane. That's why I'm careful with him when he wererats every night after sleeping like the dead all day. Strange little fellow

I've had plenty of pet rats. Got lightly nibbled a couple of times, but never mauled.

But here's the lesson: Don't go to a hospital. The moment you are bitten, wash that wound with chlorhexidine, thoroughly, for five minutes, get your ass directly to a doctor (not a hospital) and get a script for the appropriate antibiotic. Going to hospital, where the concentration of MRSA and other nasty bugs is highest is just asking for trouble.

I've had pet rats on and off over the years and have been bitten by a couple but luckily the damage was only minor.

Had a few pet rats in my lifetime, been "groomed" (removal of dead skin) but never been bitten. Their teeth are so long! Can't imagine how painful that would be!
