Re: My Radial Nerve Palsy (Drop Wrist)

Ok been to see the surgeon, he says he cannot do anything for 6 months as they have to try and let it heal naturally if its caused by bruising to the nerve. They are arranging for me to have nerve conduction tests now to see if its either a bruised nerve, diabetic neuropathy or a broken nerve.
On a plus side i have now gained a little movement in my thumb and my fingers seem to be getting stronger so at least i can now grip light things.
Will keep you all updated when ive seen the neurologist.

Re: My Radial Nerve Palsy (Drop Wrist)

Until now I haven't heard of anybody afflicted by this other than myself. I had three surgeries performed 2 of which were unsuccessful. Thank God Im not left handed or this would really have screwed me! I went about 2 years unable to properly use my hand so muscle atrophy has been a issue as well. I feel for you, it sucks without doubt! Mine affected me so bad I couldn't move my hand up and down and I couldn't even fully open my hand resulting in a closed fist all the time. Ive been through 2 different orthopedic surgeons and 4 years later I still struggle with a jacked up hand. I can move it up and down at the wrist and open my hand but it is still very weak from not being able to use it for so long.

Re: My Radial Nerve Palsy (Drop Wrist)

Small update...
Last week i went to see a consultant at the department of Neurophysiology. I had small electrical charges and electrical shocks placed on different areas of both my arms and hands to measure the differences of nerve reactions.
It appears i have partially severed a nerve in my upper arm approx half way down from my shoulder to my elbow.
You would think i would have felt some form of pain but i have not.
Im now waiting to go back and see what the surgeon wants to do. Some prefer to operate and some make you wait 12 months to see if the nerve will repair itself.
This splint is starting to get on my nerves so to speak, lost all muscle tone now around the wrist and forearm so i will need intense physio at some point.

Re: My Radial Nerve Palsy (Drop Wrist)

When I had my MS attack (as I like to call it) I woke up one morning, had no use of the right side of my body. It took the better part of a year to regain use of it, and still it is not 100%. Nerve pain/damage, tingling, loss of feeling etc still exists in my hands/feet. Losing use of my right hand sucked, as I'm right handed!
It certainly does give a good look at what some people must live with forever.

I wish you the best...I hope all turns out ok and you get some answers and relief soon!
Your MS sounds just like my MS.
