My Partner Was Bitten by a Brown Recluse...
On his upper back, right side. At least that's what we suspect. He is not the doctor type of guy so I really had to resort to threats of making his life more miserable than this bite was going to make it if he didn't go. He has a job where he goes under houses, basements, attics, bushes, etc. to install fiber optic so he's exposed to all kinds of critters. He came home from work on Thursday saying he had something itching on his back so I looked at it and took this picture. Friday morning he woke up saying he was really sore all over so he called off work. I didn't think it was anything beyond normal aches and pains as he has pretty bad pain in his hip and back from being shot (accidentally) in the hip when he was 12 years old (he's in his 50s now). Later that day he was feeling worse and informed me that the bite turned blackish purple. I spent about an hour convincing him to go to urgent care and this was the picture he took while waiting for the doctor. He tested negative for lymes disease and had a fever of 101.7F (38.2C) He started the antibiotics Friday night (day 2) and this is the latest photo from early this afternoon when I cleaned it (day 3). His fever is gone and body aches subsided dramatically. It did break open this morning and it looks like the outer ring of the black part is blistering up and will likely break open in the next 24 hours. I will post more updates as we go but this is scary shit. PS. I remember seeing this post where the guy was bitten in nearly the same place.

Re: My Partner Was Bitten by a Brown Recluse...
I hope he makes a quick recovery, but I know that when I was bitten on the arm, it took about 3 months before it finally healed up. At least he can wear a gauze pad to absorb the pus it will generate. I wore a bandage on my arm, but had to change it several times a day to keep it from appearing nasty. My wound smelled like a dead cat for at least 2 months. |
