Re: My Kidney Stone
My younger brother had one of these recently, he's only 17! He peed blood for over a week and ended up in hospital in agonising pain, and ended up on antibiotics. When I quizzed him, it turns out he NEVER drunk water. He would only drink soft drink (soda if you're American), and cordial. But he would only dilute the cordial 50/50 with water - that's insane! It should be maximum 20% cordial and 80% water! I grilled him on how bad that is and now he keeps a 2L bottle of water with him, that he fills at the start of each day and has to have finished by the evening. I hope he never gets kidney stones again! |

Re: My Kidney Stone
He hasn't learned fully how his body works yet! Don't let him drink too much either. 2 liters is probably perfect for a seventeen-year old who isn't physically active |

Re: My Kidney Stone
He's not very active so 2L is fine. But I told him that in summer when he sweats lots, or on days that he skates and exercises, he should drink more than 2L :)

Re: My Kidney Stone
A funny thing about the human body is that it doesn't always alert us to drink water when we 'need' to. We will become Thirsty at some point to preserve Life in the immediate sense, but not always to remind us to drink enough water to prevent the avoidable formation of stones. Most people tend toward underhydration even though most don't form stones. |
