My brother was weightlifting in high school for football when he was resting his hand on some sort of thrust machine. Anyways it was overloaded with weight and the kid was only doing calf raises and dropped it when he was done. My brother lost about 2/3 of his nail worth of finger. They couldn't reattach it as the remaining piece was smashed so they clipped the bone down to be flush with the remaining flesh. He asked my dad to take a picture with his phone on the way to the hospital.
